Or you could take the easy route and join one of our personalized workshops. The Treo is a powerful tool that can make you more effective, efficient, and organized. Hands-on instruction
For all sessions, you will be entering a web conference room where you will be able to see all the functions being demonstrated on a Treo 650 emulator. The instructor will explain every step so you can follow along on your own Treo and  have your questions answered as the session progresses.  Your only additional cost will be the long distance conference call.

Limited to 8 people
Each module is from 30 minutes to 1 hour in duration and is limited to 8 people to ensure an effective instructor to student ratio.  Prior to each module You will receive a comprehensive set of reference notes by email..

Module 1 – Getting up to speed and beyond (duration: 45min – 1hr)
This module is designed to give you an overall comfort level with the Treo in terms of some basic operations and navigating but also some more advanced ideas to unleash some of the hidden potential of the device. It is recommended for all levels of expertise but is essential knowledge for the more advanced modules to follow. In this module you will learn to:

  • Input text and uses special characters.
  • Copy and paste text between applications.
  • Backup your Treo to a memory card.
  • Performing and understanding Hotsync.
  • Use security and passwords for protecting your information and your device.
  • Use infrared to beam information and applications.
  • Create categories and customize your Treo.
  • Tweak the Treo’s preferences to get more out of the device. 

Module 2 – Calendar (duration: 45min – 1hr)
This module focuses on the Calendar application.
Although you may have a basic understanding of the Calendar application this module will turn you into an expert! This module is recommended for users of all levels. In this module you will learn to:

  • Navigate the Calendar application (preferences, alert tones, views etc.)
  • Send your appointments wirelessly via email and infrared.
  • Attach notes, reschedule and set alarms to appointments.
  • Set repeating events.
  • Purge events.
  • Using security features to make appointments password protected.
  • Publish your calendar on the web.
  • And more!

Module 3 - Contacts, Memos and Tasks (duration: 45min – 1hr)
This module focuses on three applications: Contacts, Memos, and Tasks. Although you may have a basic understanding of these applications this module will turn you into an expert! This module is recommended for users of all levels. In this module you will learn to:

  • Navigate the Contacts application including: creating, categorizing, and deleting contacts.
  • Create and wirelessly send your own virtual business card.
  • Attach notes and pictures to contacts.
  • Create and using custom fields.
  • Usie security features to make your contacts password protected.
  • Navigate the Tasks application including: creating tasks, tweaking the preferences, sending tasks wirelessly, setting repeating tasks and more!
  • Navigate the Memo application including: creating and organizing your memos, sending memos wirelessly, protecting your memos with security features and more!

Module 4 – The Mobile Phone (duration: 30min – 1hr)
This module is designed to help you get the most out of your Treo650 as a mobile phone. It is recommended for users of all levels. In this module you will learn to:

  • Choose, create, and download ring and alert tones.
  • Assign caller ID ring tones.
  • Create, and manage Favorites.
  • Prevent accidental screen taps.
  • Adjust call volume and control the speaker phone.
  • Access and use the call log.
  • Make calls via voice activation.
  • Record telephone calls!
  • Tweak preferences and more!

Module 5 – Email (duration: 30min – 1hr)
This module is designed to bring you up to speed on using email with your Treo. It is recommended for users of all levels. In this module you will learn to:

  • Send and receive email.
  • Send and receive attachments such as Word and Excel documents.
  • Synchronize with your desktop email program.
  • Create email accounts in your Treo.
  • Create an email signature.
  • Mange email folders and filters.
  • Use the auto sync feature.
  • And more! 

Module 6 – Browsing the web (duration: 30min – 1hr)
This module is designed to show you how to get the most out of your Treo’s wireless web capabilities. It is recommended for users of all levels. In this module you will learn to:

  • Become familiar with the Blazer browser
  • Navigate the wireless web.
  • Access useful web pages and web portals.
  • Create and use bookmarks.
  • Save web pages for offline viewing.
  • Access the browser history.
  • Tweak browser settings
  • Clear your browser cache and more!

Module 7 – Multimedia (The Camera, and Real Player) (duration: 30min – 1hr)
This module is designed to make you an expert in the use of the Treo’s multimedia capabilities with special focus on the digital camera. It is recommended for users of all levels. In this module you will learn to:

  • Use the camera to take digital pictures.
  • Shoot digital video
  • Edit, organize, and wirelessly send pictures and video clips.
  • View your pictures as a slideshow
  • Upload your pictures to the web and create an online picture blog.
  • Transfer and play music using your Treo.
  • Understand and use the RealPlayer application.

Module 8 – Third-party applications and add-ons (duration: 50min – 1hr)
This module goes above & beyond the normal functions of a Treo. You will discover things you had no idea the Treo was capable of! This module is recommended for users of all levels and especially appealing to those who want to discover the amazing capabilities of their Treo650. In this module you will learn:

  • Where to find software and add-ons for your Treo
  • How to choose the best software and add-ons.
  • Download, unzip and install applications to your Treo.

Discover amazing applications and add-ons such as:

  • GPS and mapping software.
  • Printing and faxing from the Treo!
  • Working with Word and Excel files.
  • Work with and show PowerPoint slides straight from your Treo!
  • Use Adobe Acrobat and PDF files.
  • Turn your Treo into a voice recorder.
  • Voice activated dialing programs.
  • Bluetooth headsets and Car kits

Module 9 – The Treo & Time Management Usage (duration: 40min – 1hr)
This module focuses on time management principles and how to use the Treo in conjunction with these principles. Unless used properly the Treo may only be an expensive gadget. It does however have the potential to a very powerful time management tool. We will look at both the Treo as it comes out-of-the-box but also third-party software. The session is recommended for intermediate to advanced users. In this module you will learn how to use the Treo to:

  • Set and achieve your personal and organizational goals
  • Delegate and keep delegation records
  • Manage your meetings
  • Use advanced scheduling techniques
  • Use correct methods for follow-ups
  • Track and log telephone calls and email
  • Keep track of assignments, requests, telephone numbers, important dates, and things to do so they are always at your fingertips.

Workshop leader:
Jason Taylor, handheld computer consultant and previously president of eMobilities Inc., is vice president of Harold Taylor Time Consultants Ltd. He graduated in Business from Seneca College,  worked in financial planning during the ‘80’s and attended both McMaster University and the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. In the past eight years he has applied his creativity to handheld computer technology. His focus for the past four years has been on the Palm computing platform.
